What are AI Credits?
AI Credits are the unit of measurement used to track and bill usage of the Einstein AI platform. One credit is roughly equivalent to one short exchange with the AI — a question and an answer. The credits system gives you full transparency: you can see exactly how much usage there has been, by which bot, on which channel, and in which period.
How many credits does a conversation cost?
Credit consumption per conversation depends on three factors: the AI model chosen (local/lightweight models cost fewer credits than premium models), the length of the context (how many documents the AI retrieves), and the number of turns in the conversation. As a rule of thumb, a normal customer service conversation costs 2–8 credits. With a starter bundle of 1,000 credits per month you can easily handle 125–500 full conversations.
How does billing work?
The platform uses a prepaid credits model combined with a fixed monthly subscription fee per plan. Each subscription includes a monthly credit bundle that rolls over to the next month if unused. If you exceed your bundle, extra credits are automatically purchased at your plan rate. Enterprise customers can set a credit threshold to receive alerts or activate a savings mode.
Tips for saving credits
- Use the right model for the task — local models are excellent for simple FAQ bots.
- Set a clear system prompt with defined boundaries to produce shorter, focused answers.
- Configure conversation memory length to match your actual use case.
- Analyse credit reports to identify high-usage bots and optimise them.
